Re: Ethics, what do I do here (Semi-Poker Related) HELP
[ QUOTE ]
Make him destroy his credit cards, and tell him to get/look for a job. After he does this, you will consider lending him the money. [/ QUOTE ] This is the best advice I've seen in this whole thread. Also, consider if you loan him the money setting up a payment plan where he pays you $30 a week for 10 weeks, as an example. |

Re: Ethics, what do I do here (Semi-Poker Related) HELP
Unless its for an immediate life saving operation then...
NO Tell him SORRY, but you've just "invested" all your money and don't really have any "extra" to loan out right now. Ask him how he's doing and you'll meet up sometime for drinks Unfortunately, just for him asking for the money, does change your relationship, and not for the better. good luck |

Re: Ethics, what do I do here (Semi-Poker Related) HELP
Tell him that you can't really afford it right now. This may be true, it may not, but you definitely should not feel guilty about it. My brother has done the exact same thing as far as running up debt. He pleaded for money to anyone who would listen. I gave him $100 for his birthday, because he said he needed money to pay off some debt worse than anything else. Though you wouldn't have known it for the 2 playstation games he bought with it.
I believe he learned the most by suffering the consequences of his actions, ultimately filing bankruptcy and losing his vehicle. In fact, he doesn't even have a credit card anymore. |

[ QUOTE ] however this is one of my best friends. [/ QUOTE ] that should be enough [/ QUOTE ] Not even. His friend sounds like a total dead beat who is in a jam he shouldn't have been in. If it was a friend whos car broke down or he couldn't afford rent or whatever, then this would be an easy lend to a good friend if you could afford the $300, but this kid seems like he needs to learn some responsibility the hard way. Its to pay back credit cards, he can just get taken to collection or whatever and not pay it back immediatly. If he gives him the money he is probably just wasting it. |

Re: Ethics, what do I do here (Semi-Poker Related) HELP
im going to relate a little story - i moved last december and had to get rid of my king size water bed because of room issues - so i asked one of my poker buddies to help me move and he agreed - in the process of helping me move he said that he was interested in buying the bed - so i told him that it was his as long as we moved it right now and let him know that there was no way i was going to take it back - so we moved it to his house - i have not yet seen the money for it and i havent heard from him since the last time i called looking for my money (about 6 weeks or so) - anyways - unless you are willing to lose this friend over $300 you should NOT lend him the money
