Default 6max vs full ring

on the sites that i'm playing there seem to be a lot more players playing the 6max tables than the full ring games, som my question is: How does this affect the preflop strategy? I'm almost certain that i have read somewhere that one should play as if the first four players in a full ring game have folded. Is this true?

Thats the right way to look at it(a FR game in which the first 4 people have folded).

It's pretty different and requires more adjustments than just playing it like a full ring game with the first 4 folding. With less players in the mix hand values go up. Players are more aggressive. Players tend to be worse on average. You can loosen up and raise a wider range of holding pf.
