Default Flopped a set vs flush draw

Party Poker 2/4 Hold'em (7 handed) converter

Preflop: Hero is MP2 with 8[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img], 8[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img].
1 fold, MP1 calls, Hero calls, 3 folds, BB raises, MP1 calls, Hero calls.

Flop: (6.50 SB) 6[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img], 8[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img], J[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img] (3 players)
BB bets, MP1 calls, Hero calls.

Turn: (4.75 BB) K[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img] (3 players)
BB checks, MP1 checks, Hero bets, BB folds, MP1 calls.

River: (6.75 BB) T[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img] (2 players)
MP1 bets, Hero raises, MP1 3-bets, Hero calls.

Final Pot: 12.75 BB

I only called on the flop hoping to raise the turn, should I have raised the it on the flop instead? Second when the third spade fell on the river, should I have just called?

We call that "slow playing." Slow playing is how sets die. At this point, you're ahead, but you're not WAY ahead. With lots of scary cards to come, you need to push your advantage HARD to take this beast down soon, or at least jam the pot full of cash while you're ahead.

You only make money here when your opponent calls AND your hand beats his. You need to assess the likelihood that you'll be ahead AFTER a call.

Given that you're heads-up and given a chance of a reraise, you need to make sure that you're ahead about 2/3 of the time in order for a raise to be profitable here.

Are you ahead of 2/3 of the hands that BB bets on this river? What does BB raise preflop that likes this river enough to bet it?

AK either bets or check-raises this turn (most likely bets, given the passivity of opponents on the flop).
AQ loves it preflop, bets the flop, calls the turn. This is a worry.
AJ probably doesn't lead this river.
KQ bets the turn.
KJ bets or check-raises the turn.
QJ might play this way.
Ax [img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img] easily plays this way, especially with the 8 [img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img] or J [img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img] as a kicker.
AA doesn't ease up on the turn.
KK certainly hits the turn hard.
JJ also keeps up pressure on the turn.

Given the whole hand's play, BB's most likely hands are ones that beat you. It's possible he's got something you beat, but not 2/3 of the time. You need to call this river instead of giving him an opportunity to check-raise you.

You killed your set by trying to slow play it.

The river raise was pretty bad, too.
