Default What is the ideal game for me?

I am relatively new to the forum, and I am just getting my bankroll rebuilt after experiencing phase 2 (loose aggro playing underolled) and busting a 1.5k bankroll. I bought pokertracker and started following the forums for a while. I've posted a little bit, but never really anything of value.

Ive been playing party limit at .5-1. After I turned $115 into about $400 I added the 6 table $50NL. My limit stats are 7.84BBX100 after 9040 hands, for net 709.18 with a total rake of 354.75. My NL stats are 12.54BBx100 hands (does this nl stat mean anything) for 476.14 net and 207.10 total rake after 3798 hands.

I have a few questions about what I should do next. My bankroll is now $600 dollars (I cashed out some recent winnings for expenses). I have enough to play the 1-26max shorthanded, or continue playing 50nl 6 handed. At 50NL I see some amazing things happen, entire $150 stacks donated with AJ against AA for instance. I really feel my No Limit game is much stronger than my limit game. I wanted to know what you guys thought the more profitable game was. I play 4 tables at a time when I play limit, and when I play no limit i usually just play one table. I have sucessfully beat the .5-1 full table game, and I always feel comfortable in no limit, but I feel out of my element in short handed limit. I can and will continue to improve all aspects of my game, but at this point, the main thing I am concerned with is building my bankroll. Which game is more profitable. I am leaning towards NL, but I would appreciate any and all feedback.

I have plenty of info on pokertracker I can produce if anyone cares. On a completely different topic, is the netwin/rake ratio important? What does this rake really represent? Money out of my pocket that I spend? Or lost winnings? Or both?

Thanks for the trouble.

If your best game is NL, why would you play anything other than NL (in the pursuit of money)

I keep hearing that the limit games on party are where all the money is at. I have made steady money playing limit, but it's amazing the donations you see playing NL. I think it's because I usually play late at night (What I like to call drunk fish time). Obviously 1000NL is more profitable then .50-1 limit, if you have the bankroll for both. Now that I have the bankroll for 1-2 shorthanded and also 50NL, which do you think is the better game? Is playing both a sound idea, or should I save that 300BB for limit, and have a seperate no limit bankroll?

For now, at least, I would suggest that you focus on one discipline (NL or limit). Hold'Em can be a difficult enough game to learn, without trying to learn two different versions of it at once (not that you're a rank beginner, but you're obviously not an old pro either ). You say that you feel your NL game is better than your limit, so it makes sense to stick with that.

The rake number represents exactly what it sounds like--the total rake that Party has taken out of all the pots you've won. For small/microlimits, you generally have to win at least 2BB/100 in order to keep up with the rake. I don't have enough NL experience to say what the rate is there, but I would imagine it's similar. It's just the casino's cut of your action.

Since you are doing better at No Limit, I'd suggest staying with that.
Personally I can't stand Limit Hold Em. I had very little interest in the game before NL became popular and instead played 7 Stud. To me the idea of only being able to double the blind after several people have called is an awful form of poker. And I was shocked when I first looked at limit hold em and you could only make the minimum bet after the flop.
One other thing to consider is that if you ever get lucky enough to find yourself on the WPT or the World Series, then you will be playing No Limit. I prefer ring games to tournaments, but play some tournaments at NL just to get some experience and ocassionally take a shot as the satellites for some of the big tournaments.
