Default 1/2 and 5/10 similarities

Hi, there. I tried posting this in the heads up/short-handed forum, but I only got one response so I am posting it here, too.

I'm trying to improve my short handed play and have found a lot of good posts with the search feature, but I have a couple of short questions that I couldn't find the answers to.

Specifically, I've found great posts that tell what my stats should be for 5/10 and I was wondering if I can apply these stats to the 1/2 6 max games or do they play a lot differently? In other words, can I play 1/2 in the exact same way as 5/10? I'm not worried about the larger swings at 5/10, I just want to make sure I don't pick up any bad habits at 1/2 that I would take with me when I move up.

Also, is a win rate of 2BB/100 or more plausible 4 tabling 5/10 long term? I know people say it is, but would anybody like to post their actual win rates after AT LEAST 100,000 hands? Thanks for all your help.

No, sorry. I mean moving from $1/2 6 max to $5/10 6 max.

In my opinion, these games are not similar at all, except on paper. I have played both and I crush the 1/2 6max. It is generally loose, passive players with the occasional aggressive player who plays horrible post-flop.

5/10 6-max, while not radically aggressive in itself, is light years above the 1/2 game in that regard. Additionally there are some strong players that you need to watch out for. Game selection becomes a factor here.

Yeah. I'd recommend against jumping straight from 1/2 to 5/10 though. Even if you think you are ready, and your bankroll is ready, you are most definitely not psychologically ready for the swings. Can you handle playing well and dropping $700 in 30 minutes? Variance is a bitch. I'd recommend trying 2/4 and 3/6 6max at other sites before jumping head first into party's 5/10. Take a stab at it maybe, but don't officially make the move just yet.

Thanks for the advice. I'm not worried about the big swings, I just want to know if my stats should look the same for 1/2 and 5/10. If not, which stats should be different?

I don't think your stats should look that different. But don't base too much on stats; post flop play is very important at 5/10. You're going to have be to more aggressive than 1/2 but not stupidly aggressive. You'll also be getting C/R a lot more and the like.

If you have the roll, go ahead and take a shot. But I think you'll do better by playing 2/4 and 3/6 6-max at Stars or PokerRoom (or only playing 2/4 3/6 tables at Party when they're shorthanded.)

Stats are a result. Don't play to get your stats 'optimal'. Focus on your decision making and the stats will fall into line.
