Re: Its official, PV is now for sale
[ QUOTE ]
I'm not sure to say PT is more complex would be accurate. Sure, it performs many operations but PV I would venture a guess has much more coding in it. [/ QUOTE ] PT is a PowerBuilder application. I have 5+ years experience in enterprise PowerBuilder development. Trust me, PokerTracker has a ton of code behind it. PlayerView on the other hand, is a pretty simple application. It doesn't do much. Anyone with some Win32 development experience could duplicate the application without much effort. I'm actually considering writing my own application to do just what PlayerView does. Nothing like some good old fashion competition. |

I doubt Pat would advertise on PV webisite if he didn't approve of the project. That would seem logical. Lori [/ QUOTE ] Well I went ahead and emailed their support, so I'll see what they say and post it here. |

Re: Its official, PV is now for sale

I was aware they were going to start charging for a professional version of PV, I didn't realize it was going to be $50. I don't have a problem with them selling PV, I think it's a great add-on and it's not something I would prevent someone from buying/using with PT. Another free alternative is Game Time+ (http://www.pokertracker.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=3812). There may be a future PT version that has this kind of functionality, maybe v3. But that won't be for some time yet. Thanks. Pat [/ QUOTE ] |

I don't care how many years you've been programming, to say PV is very simple is just wrong.

I don't care how many years you've been programming, to say PV is very simple is just wrong. [/ QUOTE ] It was written by two college kids after classes. The core functionality was something they had running in a couple weeks. It extracts information from a database and draws in in someone elses's window. The commercial software I work on has a team of 5 programmers working for a year to develop one product cycle, with a plethora of QA, artists, coordinators, etc. supporting said development. I suppose "simple" is a vague term. Do you consider Windows calculator to be simple? |

Re: Its official, PV is now for sale

The PV staff has got to be joking. The most recent testing version that I used has severe re-draw in my computer and graphical issues in the 6-max tables - with the numbers overlapping each other, numbers are in the wrong positions and numbers not correctly refreshing. As an original donor and supporter to the original project, I feel this is way way overpriced IMO. [/ QUOTE ] This has gotten a lot better in the release version. |
