Re: re: hand 1
Two questions: I am not accustomed to raising AT from UTG. How debateable is this? Also, raising JTo from LP seems like a great idea with reads, but spewing otherwise. You figure that you have to get players to fold k8, a2, etc for this to be profitable, and against donks, this could be costly.

Re: re: hand 1
I think the thing that surprises me most about this thread is how many people are folding ATo here. At a typical micros table, this hand is far better than what people will come in or cold call with. I think it's an easy raise. If you get 3bet, sucks to your ass-mar, but prepare to bail fast if you don't catch a favorable flop.
That said, at a tougher table, I could see folding this, but this sounded like a typical table. |

I'd like to direct people to this post for advise on how to deal with the K9s. Grunch has some interesting advice.

Re: re: hand 1
couple things... i'll grant that raising AT utg is certainly debatable. and in early gestation periods of poker "i can't play well postflop to save my life" kinda things, folding it isn't the end of the world. limping is correct sometimes, too. but against poor opponents your raise has value, will limit the number of junk hands that slip in after you, will make the hand easier to play postflop. further, UTG+2 is NOT UTG. It's still early position, but the fact that field is already smaller by two is worth noting.
Second, raising JTo from LP is definitely iffy, since you have essentially zero showdown potential unimproved. So you have to be able to outplay your opponents postflop. Open limping from late position is, however, almost always a travesty. So if I'm playing it here, I'd prefer to raise. |

Re: Preflop opening hands questions
[ QUOTE ]
I would fold ATo in this spot but at the same time I see AJo as an easy raise. How big of a difference is there between AJ and AT, and for those of you who advocate raising AT, what about A9? -aron [/ QUOTE ] AJ is a LOT better than AT. Lets say you hit top pair. If you have AJ, what are you afraid of? K's and Q's. With AT you have K's, Q's, and J's. 50% more cards to watch out for. 50% more chance of domination. It's either 50% more overcards if you paired the J/T, or 50% more higher kickers if you pair the ace. Choose your poison. I've seen TONS of weak players coldcalling with AQ & AK lately too, AT makes me a lot more nervous than AJ. Likewise, the difference between AQ and AJ is even greater than the difference between AJ and AT, and the same for AK/AQ. |

Re: Preflop opening hands questions

Assume a typical low 30s VP$IP table. What are your default plays here first in? 1) ATo in UTG+2 2) A8s in MP1 3) K9s in MP1 4) QJs in MP1 5) 77 in MP1 6) 66 in MP2 7) A9o in MP3 8) KTo in MP3 9) T9s in MP3 10) JTo in CO [/ QUOTE ] I like to do these without looking at the other responses. So here goes.... 1-Raise 2-Call 3-Fold 4-Call 5-Call 6-Call 7-Raise 8-Raise 9-Fold 10-Raise How'd I do? |

3) K9s in MP1 i waffle. for me this depends on who is yet to act behind me. i have a tendancy to limp this, raise this, or fold this. [/ QUOTE ] Ever consider your other options? |
