Re: Missed AK??
If you read the opponent as a calling station and plays hands like middle pair, I would say give the hand up. Bluffs rarely work small stakes online.
If you see him play cards like 87s, TJs, QJs, or something whacky like 86 or or J8 don't even think you have a good chance of winning this pot, showdown or no showdown. You may be drawing dead. |

Re: Missed AK??
This is something I have learned on PP. I am glad you posted this.
You raised pre-flop against one limper, who called. BTW, I think your 3.3(BB) raise was a good amount. I like the idea of betting as a continuation; however, I think t200 into a t245 pot is a bit much. I'd have bet less than that, say 100 or 125. Then comes the turning point in the hand. Your t200 bet should be enough to drive him out if he has nothing, but he calls your big bet. At this point you have to know you're behind. He likely has at least a pair, making you at least a 6.7:1 dog to improve, and that assumes you're not reverse dominated (by A7, A9 or AT) and that villian doesn't hold QJ (eliminating your 3 Ks as outs). When he calls on the flop, it's time to check behind on the turn and get your free card. Against any bet, however, you have to fold UI. I had been making this mistake time and again against calling stations. I used to think: the flop missed him too, and imagine Vince Van Patten applauding my courage to "fire a third shot at this pot." You don't have the chips to chase him away. He's caught something, and you're a huge dog. My play: same pre-flop, bet 125 on the flop, and fold to a bet UI. |
