10-20 Hand, A3s in LP
Last night at the local casino, I'm playing in my usual 10-20 game, except there are 5 loose players playing about 70% of their hands...we had like 7-8 pots in a row of at least 6 players. I've got A3 of diamonds in the cutoff. Two MP limpers, I limp, both blinds come in.
Flop is A 9 6, rainbow, with 1 [img]/forums/images/icons/diamond.gif[/img] , and is checked around to be. I bet. Both blinds and 1 MP call. Turn is the 6 [img]/forums/images/icons/heart.gif[/img] , putting two hearts on board. Checked around to me. The two blinds were two of the loose players playing (and calling) if they got any piece of it. I figure odds are good someone has a bigger Ace or a 6, so I check it. (comments...) River is 2 [img]/forums/images/icons/spade.gif[/img] , no flush. It's checked to me. If someone had a bigger Ace or a 6, they probably would have bet it with me checking behind on the turn for fear of no one betting. I bet and groan when 2 of the 3 called. (Normally, I would have checked behind here, but the two blinds were the types of players to call the river with ANY piece of the board and the other MP wasn't that much better). I flip over my cards and everyone mucks...the Small Blind looks at me funny and makes a weird crack about not betting the turn... (later on I found that the two blinds would play almost any two suited cards and call if the flop contained just one of their suit). Any comments on my play/reasoning. Dante |

Re: 10-20 Hand, A3s in LP
You should bet the turn for value and to prevent free rides. Chances are that no one's holding a six, and there' s no evidence that someone's holding a big ace.
I'd bet the turn and check the river if unimproved. If you get a nice card like an off-suit K or Q on the river, then bet the river too. |

Re: 10-20 Hand, A3s in LP
i like it but you could also raise preflop but calling is good i guess depends on game.
you get checkraised by aggressive on turn you have to fold (even knowing its probably a flush draw picked up) no overcards can come and you can get chance to catch miracle Ace on river |

bet the turn and check the river. i think you got lucky on this one, even against loose players. most of the loose types are more likely to call qto down with a kq2 board, but not call down this with a weak pair.

Bet the turn, man. After you bet the turn and are called, you can decide if you think a river bet is profitable (which it may very well be).

Re: 10-20 Hand, A3s in LP
If the other players are the tricky type to check-raise or semi-bluff, etc., then I suppose checking the turn is ok. However, if the players are very straightforward, then they would have bet the flop or the turn, so in that case you probably should have bet, but you know the players better than I do. Good bet on the river, if they checked the turn w/ something, they would have bet the river, once they check to you, your hand's good.

"I figure odds are good someone has a bigger Ace"
No one raised pre-flop. No one bet the flop. No one raised the flop. No one bet the turn. I sure wouldn't put any one on a big ace. And since the turn card put a flush draw on board, it's less likely someone is slowplaying a six. Here are all of your opponents' actions to the point where it was your turn to act on the turn: limp, limp, call, knuckle, check, check, check, check, call, call, call, check, check, check. What makes you think someone can beat an ace? |
