Default Clarky re-explores O8 hand #2

PP1-2, Semi-tight, average aggression.

UTG open raises. UTG2 calls, MP calls, I call in my BB with QcQhJs9d.

Flop: [Jd 7c 2h] I check, UTG bets, UTG1 calls, MP folds, I call.

Turn: [Jd 7c 2h] 6s. I check, UTG bets, UTG1 raises, I fold.

Thoughts on all streets appreciated.

I would fold here. This is a clear miss. When I play O8 I am always looking for ways to scoop the pot. I like your starting hand better than most players, but would want to flop a Q T so I could start pounding.

This is a weak hand to start with. You chose to put an extra SB in hoping to hit your hand and scoop. Fold on the flop. You missed - don't throw any more $ away. You need runner-runner to think of winning. Even a Q will put you in jepordy to a str8. Save your chips for a better match to your hand.

Default Results

I've got some follow up questions but in the meantime here are the results. Thanks to those who have already responded. Even seemingly routine hands are questions for me at the moment until I get used to this game.

Turn: [Jd 7c 2h] 6s. I check, UTG bets, UTG1 raises, I fold.

River was Qd.

UTG won 1/4 with [ Ad 5c 3h Td ]
UTG+1 won 3/4 with [ As 5d 2c 3c ] and a pair of 2's for high.

Ouch. In retrospect that was a really good raise by UTG+1 because surely you would've called one bet there given the rainbow board and no possible straight yet. You actually had quite a few outs to the high side of the pot (any K, Q, J, T, 9, 8, 7, 6) but of course you couldn' t know that. I think in your shoes facing two bets on that board I fold too. This may turn out to be the most interesting hand you posted.

This call is OK. You are getting 7 to 1 on your call. You are hoping for a Q and no overcards on the flop.

Flop: [Jd 7c 2h] I check, UTG bets, UTG1 calls, MP folds, I call.

The board has 2 low cards so high hands go down in value. You high is only a pair of Jacks and you have no low possibilities. I would fold here.

Don't let the result change your correct thinking. To call 2 BBs cold with more raises possible, then the same on the river to maybe win 1/2 of a fairly small pot... this would be a terrible call on the turn. Even for 1 BB, it would not be worth it since the low is already made.

Call before the flop was OK.

Call on the flop was very iffy I would say especially since I believe you characterised the game as quite tight in one of your posts. Basically you need runner runner or a queen to have a hand you can bet with confidence. Although it is possible you are winning there are so many cards you don't want to see it's untrue. And it is possible that the opener has AA. If he has say AAQ2 or AAJ2 where does that leave you? I make it a rule in O8 always expressly to consider on every street whether a preflop raiser has AA and where I am if he does; AA comes up SO much more often in this game than HE.

Having called on the flop the fold on the turn was certainly correct. Odds are poor and this is a situation where you might well find the other two players cap it after you call.

As to the other hands you posted, I think you missed a bet when the 5's paired on the end and it was checked to you; quite possible to get called by a worse-kicker top pair and anyone beating you would have bet in most games (I promise I reached this conclusion before I read the results). The other hand I think you did exactly right.

Oh no!! Not again!
