I'm headed to Vegas next week on business and plan to play some low limit hold 'em while I am there. It'll be my first trip to Vegas where I will be playing hold 'em. I plan to visit a different casino every night (5 nights). They won't be long sessions, maybe an hour or two before I'll head back to my hotel for sleep and work.
What casinos have the best "atmosphere" for low limit. By atmosphere I mean non-seedy cardrooms, good service, and relaxed or friendly tables. Also, I am trying to collect $1 poker chips. If any of you prefer the looks of one casino's poker chips over another, let him hear about them. So, post your top 5 casinos based on the above if you will. Thanks. |

If you dont mind the 2+ hour wait then yeah go for it. Example:
I was playing 4/8 at MGM. Raise UTG with KK. 6 callers. Flop K22, I bet. 6 calls. (rainbow flop) Turn was 7c. I bet, 6 callers. River Jc. I bet, get raised, goes to 5 bets. I show K's full and announce it. Other player says...NO GOOD!! I have a J high flush. And he was dead serious. 2 other players agreed that he had the best hand. "I been playing 20 years and a flush always beats full house" he says. The dealer just pushes me the pot and the guy gets mad until the rest of the table say "not in this casino it doesn't.". Thats about the normal for 4/8 at MGM. |

When I say low limit, I'm talking $1/$2 and $2/$4. $4/$8 is the lowest at MGM Grand? And a 2 hour wait to get a seat?

3-6 is the lowest stake most decent cardrooms will spread. If you want lower you'll have to go to the shitty card rooms like the Luxor and Excalibur.

The MGM Grand does have 2/4 as well as 1/2 NL.

I'd recommend the Monte Carlo for a $2/$4 game. It's not that different from any other Vegas game of the same limit, but the dealers and floorpeople are awesome, and I like the cozy and quiet room. I second the Excalibur for low limit... It's not nearly as nice as I think it could be, but the low limit games aren't bad at all. For my money though, skip the Luxor. Blah. MGM Grand is nice. (And of course Mandalay Bay, Bellagio, Mirage, etc, but those are higher limits.)
