Default Memorable Idol performances of years past...

OK, i'm not proud, but yes, i'm a fan of the show. it was a pretty forgettable show last night to me, so i thought it would be fun to rehash some of the really standout performances of years past. Here are mine...

Tamyra Gray: "House is Not a Home"
In the years since, this song's been done at least one or two other times. But, in my opinion, never up to the bar Tamyra set in season 1.

Kelly Clarkson: "Stuff like that There"
I remember thinking that until this performance, Kelly was sort of the dark horse in what was going to be a mainly Tamyra vs. Justin race.

Kelly Clarkson: "Think Twice"
The judges thought this song sucked and it was a decent vehicle to show off her power ballad voice, but not much more. Personally, I got chills...(though, I did have a Justin vs Kelly bet going at the time w/ my friend and that really spiced it up for me)

Clay Aiken: "Bridge Over Troubled Water"
Throughout season 2, I really felt like Clay was kind of a one-trick pony with a very like big note, showtune sound. But I thought he kicked ass with this song and pulled ahead of Reuben. Shows how much I know.

William Hung: "She Bangs"
I never said the best performances. Only the most memorable...

Latoya London: "Somewhere"
I never understood how/why Latoya didn't at least go further in season 3. Same as Kelly above, the judges really didn't warm to this performance but I thought it was great! even watched it streamed at work a few times the next day...

Fantasia: "Summertime"
To me, Fantasia sounds like Macy Gray minus some "cool" and plus some "soul/gospel". When she sang Summertime, I could totally picture her in a lemonade commercial, sitting on the porch on a hot sunny day, w/ the dog laying at her feet...

so, there's my memorables...u guys?

does it have to be years past?

i think constantine's bohemian rhapsody will rank up there for years.

and call me broadway, but i thought kelly c's 'moment like this' was her best performance and perhaps the best idol performance ever.

I don't think anyone has come close to Kelly's performance of "Without You".

To the list already, add

Clay: Solitaire

Kelly: RESPECT

John Stevens: King of the Road

There was girl in the first season that sang a song with a title something like "Marmalade". The song was great. Very weird, but great.

The best idol performance ever is....John Stevens in the round of 32 when he did "She's always a woman to me."

I think that performance dragged him longer than most thought he should make it. Of all last years performers he is the only one I would ever buy an album from.

Fantasia's version of Summertime was clearly one of the best ever. Robinson totally blew up wonderful world. And Vonzell and LaToya both had excellent performances of Whitney songs (can't remember which).

I knew i would take flack for it, but seriously every other performer brings nothing new to the current music scene or sounds bad (Fantasia).
