Ducks on the button
10/20 game at Potawatomi
Hero is on the button with 22. MP1 is loose and somewhat aggressive. MP3 is loose and quite agressive. UTG+1, MP1 calls. MP3 raises. CO cold calls. Hero calls. SB folds. BB, UTG+1 and MP1 call. (12.5 SB) Flop is 8 [img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img] 5 [img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img] 4 [img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img] All check. Hero Bets. UTG+1, MP1 and CO call. (8 BB) Turn is 8 [img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img] All check. Hero Bets. UTG+1 folds. MP1 raises. CO folds. Hero Folds. Too weak to fold here? Should I even have tried for the pot? I feel that my cold call in a pot likely to go 6-handed seems right. |

Re: Ducks on the button
I like preflop, but I would take the free card on the flop

Re: Ducks on the button
I’d also take the free card on the flop. Pair of 2’s isn’t going to win this hand UI without getting all the other players to fold. And in a B&M, against that many other players in a big pot, good luck.

Re: Ducks on the button
Given the preflop raise and the cold-calls I'd be really concerned about facing other small pockets. I like taking a free turn card and if you miss the turn, only bet if it's checked through to you. Fold to a check-raise at that point though.
But, 10/20 is beyond my normal game, so take my advice with some salt |

Re: Ducks on the button
REVERSE IMPLIED ODDS, dude!
I think this is the kind of hand that it is really terrible to go to war with. Yes, it might possibly be best (though I think the earlier point that there might very well be 33, 66, 77, 56, 78 or something like that out is very good). But, even if it's good, what good does betting really do here? You get basically no hand protection value; in a multiway raised pot, several of your opponent (particularly the loose ones) are guarenteed to take off the turn with next to nothing, and everyone has overcards to your deuces. If you get checked to on the turn you are pretty much obligated to bet, though about 3/4 of the deck brings cards you won't really like to see. With very little likelihood of improving and very high likelihood of getting drawn out on, your hand is pretty much a nightmare, even if its ahead. Check the flop, turn a set, and then get crazy. |

Re: Ducks on the button
betting this flop is stupid. you're not folding anybody in this pot. better to see a turn for free.

Re: Ducks on the button
Taking the free card is my usual plan here. The reason I bet here was due to the 8-high board. I figured that most of my opponents likely have overcards and getting some of them to fold increased my chance of winning this large pot. I think that 6-handed for 12 bets, most of the overcards should fold (assuming 3 outs each) and in this case 2 of 5 did fold. If the turn was a high card, I would probaly hope to check the turn and see the river for 1 bet.
When the turn paired the 8 and noone raised my flop bet, I thought it increasingly likely that I had the best hand, but again with lots of evil overcards. At least that's what I thought until I was check-raised on the turn I'm not saying my reasoning was justified, but I'd like to know your opinion on where/if this reasoning fails. |

Re: Ducks on the button
given that you did bet the the flop, you can't not bet this turn. despite what happened, the 8 is actually a really good card to come off.
