Rule 6 in the Hold-Em section from Roberts Rules of Poker

"6. You must declare that you are playing the board before you throw your cards away; otherwise you relinquish all claim to the pot."

It is my understanding that if you annonce that you are playing the board, the board becomes your hand and you can muck your hole cards while still playing the board.

Yeah, I was making a joke there, that's why it didn't make sense. Of course I was kidding. My reaction was to the not having a hand at showdown but still being able to split the pot.

It's not so bad, in that the pot went to the right, people, I just don't get how you can split a pot without a hand.

Bad decision. What if the player said "I play the board" and mucked an illegal hand, say two aces of diamonds or something.

I've never played a room where you could say I play the board and toss your hand away. You always have to show two cards to claim any share of the pot, same as in Omaha, you have to show all four to get a share.

Bad decision.

Do you know the rules at the Bellagio or for this tournament? That is all that determines whether this was a good or bad decision.

I had the _exact_ same thing happen to me in a 10-20 game at Rama.

My opponent bet when the river put a straight on board, I called. He says "I guess we're chopping, eh?" and I say "I play the board", turn my cards over and fling them toward the muck.

Of course, he got the entire pot. Last time I ever made that mistake.

Let me rephrase; either a bad decision, or what I consider to be a bad rule in their rulebook.
