Default 11.5g Chip Census and Price Survey 20050413

In the Home Poker discussions, one can see a lot of high-end chip discussion and those timidly asking what's wrong with 11.5g chips. The short answer is that as an entry-level product, there's nothing wrong with investing in a set of 11.5g chips for a home game. You're probably going to invest <$0.30 a chip, and might even be in the ~ $0.10/chip range. Real casino quality chips that self-describe "chip snobs" buy are going to cost ~ $0.85/chip and up.

For those who want to get into home poker at the $100-300 level not the $1000 level, 11.5g chips are a great option. For quite a few out there, $1000 for poker chips just isn't an option at all.

With that in mind, I spent some time visiting as many of the online sites as I could find mentioned on the boards, on google, and in dmoz as possible, searching out all the types of 11.5g chips that were out there, and the prices being charged.

Here is my 11.5g Chip Census and Price Catalog as of 20050413.

Any feedback is welcome.

i love info like this. Great job.

My only comments are that your table doesn't work real well with firefox browsers, and second... In my opinion, this seems to be missing the best cheap chips on the market. The faux clay dice, diamonds, and nexgens.

i would recommed those chips for the price range over any of the chips you have listed.

Good info, a little hard to read even with IE.

But more important is the "scam" noted on the bottom of the first page, accusing 5-Star Deal of unethical business practices and dishonest eBay complaints.

I have nothing for or against 5-Star, but many people on these pages consider buying from them, and they are often listed as a reliable source. So I for one would like to hear 5-Star's response to these allegations. Maybe it's not worth getting into a p*ssing contest by either party, so if they don't want to let us know what's going on then I'll just go away.

The evidence looks pretty damning. Does anyone from 5-Star read these forums??

I have bought from 5 star deal before and planned to buy from them again so I was interested in the "scam." I read through the "scam" and didn't find any evidence linking the two. How do the weblogs show anything that links those two ip addresses? What am I missing?

Good work.

One thing I noticed, isn't the "Royal Flush (fan denominated)" a Blue Chip "fan of cards" clay chip, not a 11.5 plastic?

Oh my. You're quite right. I got suckered into miscatagorizing this chip because of this product, which looks like the only 11.5g plastic chip. The rest of them are Blue Chip "Fan of Cards" style chips. I'm guessing this is exactly the mistake they're hoping people make. I'll have to fix that ASAP...

Chip Census and Price Survey as of 20050416.

I believe I've fixed the formatting oddness and added three NexGens as requested. Also added other non-11.5g chips: Nevada Jacks Composite, a Jackpot Casino coin-inlay, Blue Chip "James Bond", Tangiers all-metal. Differentiated the Blue Chip "Fan of Cards" from the plastic version.

All feedback appreciated.
