Its not the sample size that is the real problem here. Far more information is needed than what is provided. Based on what you have given us i cannot see to much wrong but other bits of information could well show otherwise.

Running bad? 1bb/100 hands seem ok to me. I know its not great but it certainly not bad.

6-max or full-ring?

VP-25 might be considered on the fringe for 10-player tables.
If it's 6-max then your PFR might be a bit low.

1BB/100 through 7k hands does NOT qualify as 'running bad'.

2BB/100 means your a winning player (although you need more than 7k hands).
1BB/100 means you haven't been winning as much
0.1BB/100 means you are barely break-even

-1 through -3BB/100 means you either suck or you have been running bad.

Your WtSD of 33 and W$SD of 52 indicates that you have had a few hands where you had barely enough to be worth calling down....or your opponents have been catching some draws on you.
But this also is dependant on whether you are playing 10-player or 6-max.

FWIW - In my last 7400 hands this week I am +$223 on 5/10 6-max for a whopping 0.3BB/100.
and I don't think I have been running bad.
I do still think I kind of suck but that's a different story.

If I go on a nice 67BB rush in my next 600 hands to take my win-rate to 1BB/100 over 8k hands then I'll be EXTREMELY happy.

For a player of his skill level (fairly new), 25VPIP is far too high.

For good players with excellent post flop play, sure, LAG it up. But judging by his tone, and the fact that he posted stats on 7k hands, he is fairly new to the game, and needs to work on tightening preflop.

This is just my speculation, though. Interesting, if you happen to be a long time B+M winner who just is unaware of the standard sample size online, more power to your play style.

But poker players go through a natural progression.
Losing player (Loose passive or loose aggressive)
Breakeven/Moderate winner (Tight passive and tight aggressive)
Strong winner (selectively semi-loose and aggressive)

I've never really heard of anybody skipping any steps. I havent seen anybody sit down to their first poker game and inherently know to play a tight preflop game, for example.

My suggestion is to tighten up and perfect your post flop game with a more selective array of hands. Once you are comfortable and confident with a VPIP of say...15-18%, and know how to play each situation with those hands, branch out and play some more.

And 1BB/100 is not shabby at all. Lots of 2+2ers seem to like to boast of 3BB/100 win rates, but it is really just the cream of the crop who can accomplish that. 1BB/100 is very respectable and more than most are winning.

Needs bigger sample.

8,000 hands is pretty meaningless other than giving good ideas about VPIP and PFR %'s

Microbob,

You should start posting on the HUSH forum.

I have been a little. Mostly browsing though.

I think it was you who linked to your Sept thread when you were struggling to beat 1/2 6-max..Good thread.

I have one or two of those threads where someone lists the best HUSH threads in my favorite threads section and plan on going through all that stuff at some point.

Also - It seems I forecast my own good fortune: +43BB in 160 hands. Back to back AA both held up followed by a set of J's.
The game is much easier when the deck hits you in the freaking face. Where's the HUSH thread to teach me how to make that keep happening?
