Default $20,000 down the drain

okay, so I didn't actually LOSE 20K but the other day I folded a jackpot hand at a casino preflop that would've scored me 20K had I played it for $5.

sucks to be me right now.

anybody experiece something similar? It feels like I'm gonna be on tilt for the next 50 years...

Try actually LOSING 20k in a day. My worst is -17k (so not quite 20 but close enough for discomfort). Those days are not fun.

Just think of the longterm. You can't go playing every hand cause you might hit the jackpot. Big time -EV. That's what the fish do.

Somebody posted a hand in the last month or two that cost them 40k or so -- they folded pf at a bad beat table at Party, they would have made a straight flush and beaten out quad eights.

He wasn't very happy either

I was waiting for a seat for a couple hours at the Bicycle Club one evening -- I'm tall so I like the end seats so I can stretch out. It finally became open and for some perverse reason, I told the floorman I didn't want it after all. Even though I ALWAYS take those end seats! A few hands later, the guy who sits there gets aces full busted for the lions share of the jackpot, taking home $16k.

There wasn't a single step of his hand I would have played differently, either. If not for some strange, unexpected perversity, I would have scooped the $16k.

In your case I think your presence would have somehow altered the timing of the shuffle and the cards would not have been dealt in the exact same manner as they were to the other person. So you didn't miss out on anything.

I was at canterbury and one of my friends was at a table where the flop came J J 4 turn J river 4... someone had 44, the other person had J3... how brutal is that. J2 and J3 are the only hands that don't let him in on the table share of around 5k. CRAZY

Yes but you have the opportunity to win that 20k back and more the next time.

He will likely never "hit" another jackpot again.

hence the most frustrating part and the post...

geez, I still keep thinking about it.

I'm such an idiot that I couldn't toss in 5 bucks to see a flop when I KNEW there was a jackpot going on but didn't want to get tangled in a pot from EP with a drawing hand.

Im playing poker one day in a casino and I get up to go to the mens room. On my way a slot attendant stops me and says "want to play a hot machine?" Well of course I do so he shows me a $5 slot machine and I empty my pockets (maybe 500) into the machine in like five minutes. So I grumble my way over to the mens room and on my way back there is a little old lady infront of the same machine waiting to collect on a 20K payoff.

This is probably correct. It's almost like saying a series of flips of coins or a roulette spin would have gone the same. Chaos theory.
