Default Getting good at S&G\'s, do I have to become a mathgeek ;) ?

After having a bad run (read tilt ) on the cash tables, I decided to focus more on the S&G (Party structure).

After reading some threads from"Favorite Threads and Links for STT FAQ v.3", top post btw, I found that a lot of math is involved.

I currently play mostly 30+3, and I think I have a lot to learn about S&G's.But the question is: am I gonna make it if I'm not the mathwonder some of the people here are ? And yes I understand that you have to learn and practice that stuff.

Sorry for the poor English...

To be a decent player at the 30's you only need to be versed in very simple math, i.e. pot odds calculations. Other, slightly more complicated math is useful for other things, (EV calculations, etc.) but isn't really used mid-tournament, rather, afterwards to help draw conclusions about ones play. So, don't worry about it too much if you're not a genius. Most people here aren't--we're just significantly above average.

Sorry, beating the $30+3s and up will require a degree in Actuarial Mathematics from MIT.

Hmm, I'd better check out this MIT place then.

How do you spell it?

...you won't make it. Psychologically, you'll go insane. You will NEVER know if you're playing correct, IMO.

Otherwise, you're just hoping for lifelong positive variance.

This describes every single one of my friends at our poker night.

In fact, it probably describes the teeming majority of people who play poker. The logic, the math, the determination to improve, and the ability to consider yourself a moron until otherwise convinced gives you the edge over all of them.

So yeah, learn the math! And teach me while you're at it.
