Thoughts and Views.
Hello Poker Players, I've been playing for a few years now. The last year, I've been in a poker group that's been meeting once a month for dealers choice games. I visit a casino for 7 stud poker about every other month. I'm not a big fan of Hold-Em. With all this poker, I've notice that about 60% of the time I'm up after all is said and done. I'm not out buying BMW's with the winnings, It's not that much. The rest of the time I'm breaking even or down very little. This could be after very long hours of playing. I'm just wondering, is this because I'm to tight of a player? I don't know what to make of my playing style. Any ideas? Thoughts? Views? I've never had a really Bad night or A really Big night. Thanks. |

Re: Thoughts and Views.
this question is far too vague to answer correctly. however, i can tell you with great certainty that your skills are undeveloped as a poker player if you need to be asking this question.
it appears that you have developed your skills on your own, by your own thoughts on the game. it is difficult to determine for yourself what is correct strategy and what is incorrect strategy without comparison to what other developed poker players are thinking. that is what these forums are for. if you are dedicated to poker, you should study these forums night and day, and the pieces of the puzzle will start coming together within your mind, as you learn from the others whose puzzle is more developed than yours. |

I've notice that about 60% of the time I'm up after all is said and done. [/ QUOTE ] Winning 60% of your (I'm guessing 60-120 hand) sessions is perfectly fine (especially when "The rest of the time I'm breaking even or down very little."). [ QUOTE ] I've never had a really Bad night or A really Big night. I'm just wondering, is this because I'm to tight of a player? [/ QUOTE ] Tight players will have smaller swings, yes. Welcome to 2+2. |

I think you will get better responses if you provide more specific stats about your game.

Re: Thoughts and Views.
I've read Sklansky's Books The theory of Poker, Sklansky on Poker, and The Psychology of Poker. These books I think helped. I just have a feeling that I should be having bigger nights. I feel I understand the game better, but I don't know if I should be bluffing more or not folding as much? will this help me have more bigger nights. I guess I'm trying to figure out if I'm a good poker player or not. How does a person tell? I want to find this out.
Thanks. |

"but I don't know if I should be bluffing more or not folding as much? will this help me have more bigger nights"
naturally bluffing more and folding less WILL cause you to have larger winning sessions then you currently have. of course, it will also cause you to have larger loosing sessions than you currently have. you need to find the right balance. |
