She Has a Flush!!!! She Has A Flush!!!!
Ok, I'm posting this hand in the hopes of getting flamed cause I deserved to me after totally misplaying my this hand....The following hand shows that when the "Old-loose-very predicatable" Lady raises....she usually has the nuts....When I mean old-loose-very-predicatable lady, I mean she will not raise anything less than a set...I've seen her call down top set....here's the hand:
This is Sunday Night at Boulder Station in Las Vegas ($4-$8, Blinds $1-$2): Old-loose-predictable lady calls.....it's folded all around to the SB (Tricky, very bad player, and somewhat predictable)....I'm in the SB with 5 [img]/forums/images/icons/club.gif[/img] 2 [img]/forums/images/icons/diamond.gif[/img] ...and check my option...the flop comes: 4 [img]/forums/images/icons/heart.gif[/img] 3 [img]/forums/images/icons/heart.gif[/img] 6 [img]/forums/images/icons/heart.gif[/img] SB checked..I bet....OLPL raises....SB cold calls....I can hear the cries of "She has a flush, dammit..she has a flush....fold...Fold FOLD!!!" screaming in my head, but of coruse, I'm stubborn, and instead of playing the player...I played my hand.... Turn and River are both blanks......SB and I check-Call on both streets.....and of course....Old Loose predictable lady has 8 [img]/forums/images/icons/heart.gif[/img] 5 [img]/forums/images/icons/heart.gif[/img] for a flush....SB had a set of Sixes... Lesson Learned: Your first instinct is usually the right on....don't let stubborness get in your way. I'm not looking for critiques...so Please Flame Away!!!! |

Re: She Has a Flush!!!! She Has A Flush!!!!
You wrote your first instinct is usually right and you shouldn't let stubborness get in your way. That's true, but you also shouldn't throw away hands if you have odds to continue. You don't know 100% what your opponent has, but will make a guess on how probable it is (s)he has a certain hand. Given the probability you estimate, you can make a decision on whether to continue or not. But you shouldn't let the results color your decisions. Just because she turned up with a flush this time doesn't mean she had to have one. It depends what hands she would raise with in this situation.

Re: She Has a Flush!!!! She Has A Flush!!!!
yes, you most certainly should have folded, this woman would not be raising anything less than a flush. If she'll check top set, she's not raising anything with a three-flush on the board that doesn't beat you.
sounds like you learned your lesson, though. |

Every time you pay off a nutpeddling TOM or LOL, god kills a kitten.

Also, the pot is tiny compared to your calls. If you were ever going to fold a striaght to an almost certain flush now would be the best place.

Re: She Has a Flush!!!! She Has A Flush!!!!
At Boulder Station, she has a flush 100% of the time. Not the nut flush, because she'd wait til the turn with that. But she most certainly has a medium-small made flush.
You know that. Silly Rabbitt. |

Sorry, that's really got me laughing. It took me a minute to realize it was a typo and you weren't calling yourself a 'tricky, very bad player, and somewhat predictable" player. |

Re: She Has a Flush!!!! She Has A Flush!!!!
I think it's the "rule" at all Station Casinos to wait until the turn to raise your nut flush...especially if your a TOM or LOL.

Re: She Has a Flush!!!! She Has A Flush!!!!
Some of the "tricky" TOMs will wait til the river. But you are right, the turn is the place. If they raise the flop and you have a jack or higher of trump in your hand, you can't fold because you are drawing live.
I think there is a Station Casino "How to Play Poker" rulebook somewhere, because they all play the same. |
