Thanks for the report on the Jewel Steam...been meaning to head down from Jax to try that one but had heard some dubious things.

ric - The SunCruz out of Jax is pretty good. 7 tables, well spaced on the second deck comprise the poker room. Tuesday and Sunday they have NL tourneys, but the blind structure makes those a crap shoot. Saturday is best and they usually spread 2 5/10 games and 1 or 2 10-20 tables. Unfortunately, they never have Omaha (but I always put my name on the list!). They just started a $1K min./$5K max 5/10 NL game on Sunday nights to accomodate their one "high-roller." I'm gonna do some work on my bankroll and go fishing in the pond soon...

Edit: BTW, the fishy play at the poker room has spawned a moniker for Loose-Passive play - "Dog Trackin'".

You can also play poker at the Tampa Bay Downs horse track (www.tampabaydowns.com).Their card room has about 25 tables and the players are typically very passive and not as crazy as they are at The Hard Rock. They are open every day there is live horse racing. They have a multi-table tourney that starts at noon daily-I think the buy-in is around $35-$45 and they also have 11 seat single table tourneys running continuously.Best times I have found to play is Saturday afternoon/evening.And there is no smoking. It is located about 25 minutes NW of Tampa.

Steam:

What night did you go on out on the Jewel? I would think that it willnot be a problem to get a 5/10 or 10/20 game on a Friday or Saturday night.

IQ 161 and I got in a little raising war preflop and we played the hand pretty aggressively and his Q8o was good. My KK couldn’t withstand the power of his intellect. One and one half-hours of Bingo, down $19.50.

Funny stuff.

Excellent post.

When i see a post such as this I think of Will Ferrell's SNL character who has the inability to modulate his voice and thus can only speak in a high-volume voice.

HUSH LITTLE BABY! DON'T YOU CRY!

I have played at both Seminole Hard Rock in Tampa and "The Poker Room" near Jacksonville (St. Johns's County Dog Track). Funny thing about that one is - almost nobody gambles on the dogs, they all play poker with a few people using walkabouts.

The games here are certainly beatable but you need to hit hands, of course. I moved from 1/2 to 2/2 because I wanted to charge these idiots more preflop and on the flop for limping UTG with 42o and whatever other crap they play. I bought in for $200 one day and cashed out 4 hours later for $400. Every time I had AK, I'd hit the flop. Almost all of my big hands held up, and these guys would always pay me off because Pavlov's rule is void there. I'm going there in about an hour or so after taking about a month break from there.

There are a couple of guys who go absolutely nuts over the dog races. One guy was screaming at the top of his lungs right in front of the TV which gave everyone in the room a nice laugh.

Well, that's what you'd think. However, last time I went (Friday a few weeks ago), I started a list for 5/10 at 12 Noon. The game finally started at 10 PM.
