i don't know if i should be suprised at this or not, but it appears that this forum leans much more to the left than i had anticipated. any explanations for that? is liberalism a common trait of poker players?

Quite the opposite I think. Poker is exactly the kind of wild west capitalism conservatives purport to adore when they think someone is watching. And it's actually a meritocracy that doesn't make a complete joke of the word, so it's likely to promote thinking along conservative lines, especially among successful players.
