are you forced to shill if you win a WSOP seat through a site?
i always thought that the people decked out in full human billboard gear look like complete idiots with obvious exceptions (raymer now getting his buyins paid by stars, hellmuth from UB, etc)...
i'm referring to just normal players that happened to win their seat through a sat on the card room...is there something in the tournament agreement that you are forced to become a walking billboard for the site or do people just enjoy looking like chumps? |

At pokerstars, they will pay for your hotel accomodations if you agree to wear their clothing. If you don't want to, you need to pay for your own hotel.
It varies by site, but most other sites require you to wear a shirt/hat as part of winning the prize package from their site, if your not sure read the terms. |

There is something in the agreement about that. I read it in the T&C of one of the sites (I think it was Absolute).
From http://absolutepoker.com/promotionsTerms.asp : Terms for Contest Winners * Contest winners agree to wear Absolute Poker apparel/merchandise during the complete duration of his or her time while observing play at the World Series of Poker 2005 - Texas Holdem Main Event. Apparel/merchandise will be included in winners prize package. * By participating in any Absolute Poker promo contest, you grant Absolute Poker the right to use your name and likeness for promotional purposes without further compensation. * Prize package must be accepted as awarded and is non transferable. It has no cash value. |

i know that all of UB's WSOP packages (where is typically play) already include $1500 extra for airfare and hotel...so the other sites do not do the same?

Pokerstars gives you an extra $1,000.
In addition, they will pay for your hotel if you wear their stuff. It's optional. Basically they are throwing in a hotel room for you if you wear their shirts/hats |

Read somewhere and it may have been here that "poker ads-shirts/hats etc." are not allowed at the final table of the WSOP and perhaps in all the preliminary finals.

Re: are you forced to shill if you win a WSOP seat through a site?
on the PPM cruise there was no obligation to wear the Party stuff....but a lot of people did anyway (I have a TON of party hats and shirts that will mostly be gifts for other people).
Obviously EVERY player at that tourney qualified via Party except for the 10% or so who bought-in directly. Before heading out there I was seriously considering wearing my pokerstars shirt because I thought it would be funny. The WSOP no longer allows the various online paraphanalia at the main-event final-table I think....but the sites would still want you to wear it earlier in the event. obviously the obligation varies by site. |
