A better play would be to bet, and fold to a raise.

Why? A gutshot and the flush just came in, and I doubt CO was chasing the queen. I think check/calling to give him the opportunity to bluff unsuccessfully is better than bet/folding when you have a hand with significant showdown value.

CO's play is certainly consistent with one of those draws coming in. However, I still like the check/call line on the river to give him a chance to bluff with something like an unpaired Ax .

Do you have a read the he will bluff?? Otherwise you are just missing out on a ton of value bets.

I think a common mistake of many small stakes players is to try and constantly induce bluffs. This is great against players who like to bluff, but most of the lemmings at the smaller limits are just weak tight fish waiting to give their money away by calling. People like to call, and I like to let them.

In my experience, players like to call with A-high more than they like to bet it in spots like this. 6s, 5s, and 77/88 will check behind but will also call.

I vote bet/fold.

Nothing to lay down, I bet the river and probably call a raise even. Unless the player is vanilla, then you can fold to a raise easily.
