$800 isn't very much for a whole year. Seriously, I see people dropping 800 a day on $25 tables. So you can't be that bad.

Just listen to these guys' advice and you will be fine. Good luck at the tables!

If your records are really accurate, you might be a slightly better than break even player because you have easily paid that much in rake, tips, bad beat jackpot, etc. Still, all the other posts about how to improve apply.

If you can't make back the rake, tips, jackpot drop, etc., you are losing. The rake is huge, particularly in low limits. Many people beat it anyway.

You should divide your results by types of games playes, SNG's, 6 handed, NL online, NL casino etc. and see if you do better in some games than others (differant strategies). Check out Malmuth's "Gambling Theory and other Topics", he discussed your exact question and your standard deviation of results will tell you a lot. Also, both my son and I really improved our results after reading Harrington's new book.

It is refreshing to have someone admit to doing all they can and still losing. I thought everyone who posted here was a pro who never lost!

The consensus seems to be that Poker Tracker is an essential tool. I've heard of Poker Tracker, but I'm not using it. I'll definately take a look at it and see what it can do for me.

By the way, there has been a big difference between my online and my live play. I have lost about a grand total of $50 online. I seem to be good enough to break even, but I just can't seem to turn the corner to profitability yet. I'm hoping that will come in a big way this year as I continue to learn.

My live play has apparently not been as good, because that is where the losses of $600-$700 have come. Either I'm just getting outplayed in the live games, or I'm playing differently in the live games than I do online. It's probably a bit of both actually.

I congratulate those new players who are showing a profit playing online exclusively, but I think those players who have never stepped into a casino aren't really developing into complete players. At the moment I see my losses in live games as a necessary evil. It would be nice to show a profit in live games right from the very beginning, but I'm not sure that is realistic.

What kind of results did others of you have in your first year of play?
