Re: Can anyone compare the new JB Paulsons to the NJ Martini Club?
[ QUOTE ]
over a week! well no wonder you know more than i do! i've played in a home game with NJ's for a year, and have had my samples for months. [/ QUOTE ] It doesnt take much time for the chips to break in when they get shuffled an average of 4-6 hours a day. They do not feel plasticky, and I stand by my statement that they are great chips and that you are biased heavily towards Paulson. Nowhere did I ever state that the NJs were better then the Paulsons, just that I preferred them over the current Paulson mold. The Paulsons feel a bit better but if I were to buy a set tomorrow, it would be the NJs. As far as quality control, Paulson wins there I am sure. However, when I ordered my Desert Sands chips I asked about the policy of no exchanges. That policy does NOT apply to warped/cracked chips. It applies to edge spots not being even and the other general anomalies you see in clay chips. |

Re: Can anyone compare the new JB Paulsons to the NJ Martini Club?
I don't know that Jojo and the rest of the board is being "heavily biased" toward Paulson. I happen to share his opinion, and I don't think I'm being biased. I've shown my samples to a bunch of friends who play poker but have never heard of Paulson, and they also thought the NJ's felt kind of plasticky compared to the Paulsons ("bakelite" is another term used a lot to decribe NJ's when compared with Paulsons). To me, that makes Paulson's feel "better", but lots of people like NJ's better, and lots of people even like the feel of ceramic ChipCo's better. Getting your own samples is a must.

Re: Can anyone compare the new JB Paulsons to the NJ Martini Club?
Let me just say this about Paulsons getting dirty:
This is a function of their being new. I have a ton of pre-B&G Paulsons, most of which are in mint condition. If I take a stack of any 20 of them and spend a day shuffling them, at the end of the day, my fingers will be covered with whatever color those chips are. They shed some dust. By about the fifth day of shuffling, this is reduced to near zero, and after a couple of weeks, they shed little at all. Likewise, they quit dirtying each other, since the "dirty Paulson" syndrome we've seen well documented is the same dust that dirties your shuffling fingers. So, yeah, when they're new, they'll shed dust to a horrendous extent and that dust gets on other chips, making them dirty. After a fair bit of use (and maybe one cleaning), the problem essentially goes away. The Paulsons take on the same sort of character you see with casino Paulsons, albeit still a lot less worn than what you generally find in the casino. The Blue Chip samples I've broken in, on the other hand, don't seem to exhibit this characteristic. Then again, they're harder than Paulson chips, and never quite feel the same, even after broken in. Not that I mind the Blue Chips at all, but they are different in this regard. |

Re: Can anyone compare the new JB Paulsons to the NJ Martini Club?
Bottom Line the NJ colors are better (this of course is subjective to ones taste) but I belive most would agree.
I have a set of 300 of the new bonds 500 of the Nj clays and 500 of the old bonds. Feel wise the old bonds are superior Sound also goes to the old bonds with a very close second to the new bonds. Durability I would say the NJ clays would win hands down. Quality however (as in inlay placement and damaged chips) well Paulson walks away with this prize easily. I prefer the colors and the feel of the Old Bond chips over the other 2 sets but I wouldnt sell my Nj clay set either as I am very fond of the inlay and the color combos. I do however have a set of 300 of the new bond chips for sale 50 each denom except the white chip for $325 shipped. I dont need two sets with the same dam inlays now do I? Also another thing to consider, I dont know if you are dead set on the mardi gras chips but the Njs are on sale for 499 for a set of 500 wich is a dam good price if you ask me. Just thought id let you know. |

Re: Can anyone compare the new JB Paulsons to the NJ Martini Club?
it's true; i'm heavily biased towards paulson. what that means to me, however, is that in my experience, which is a fair amount, i've concluded that the NJ's aren't close in quality to paulsons. in that respect, i've developed a bias towards the paulsons.
what does that mean, though, except that i've made an informed judgement? |

Re: Can anyone compare the new JB Paulsons to the NJ Martini Club?
I have never played with the NJ Martini's, but the NJ clays have two advantages over the JB Paulsons:
-- The label fits the mold -- The feel (texture) of the label is better. The label on the JB's has a (dare I say it) plasticky feel. IMO the feel, sound, and weight of the JB's is better. |
