Looking back on it, my 3-bet into a turn check really, really sucks, but I was scared of a raise and willing to call down to see what he had for info.

There's no way you should bet into him on the turn after he capped PF and the flop. You played it fine.

A reasonable villain does not cap/check-through this range of hands. Villain has Ax, with x depending on his aggression level. I'm guessing another Q for the chop, but it could be a K.

I think a check-call check-call bet line would be great here. And call a river raise on this board against an unknown.

That's what I'm guessing too. It's the only thing that seems pseudo-logical. I think AK/AQ would have bet the turn after capping the flop.. the turn check seems like he either doesn't have the A, or if he does, his kicker sucks. So either he capped pre-flop with something like AJs/ATs, or he overplayed KK/QQ/JJ on the flop.. i'm guessing the latter.
