By "average" I am refering to the "mean" salary of professional poker players.

I think poker (especially online) is a completely different ballpark than sports. As a pro basketball player, you play against other pro basketball players. So if you're not good enough to beat them, you end up scraping the bottom of the barrel when it comes to salaries.
As a pro poker player, you play against basically whoever you want. And most people lose at the game. I think you could teach a fairly intelligent/devoted person to be a poker pro in a matter of weeks. With all the basic SNG systems, SSH style limit, rakeback, and the ability to multitable, someone really only needs to be able to beat 2/4 for 1BB/100 and be able to do it on 12 tables at a time. And that is something not so difficult to do. But i'd be willing to say that a "poker pro's" average income would be negative. There are a lot of gamblers at the higher stakes, and alot of poker winnings are turned over to the craps/blackjack tables and given right back to casinos. Averages shouldnt matter though. Just worry about what you're capable of. |

Ok almost all of the previous posts discussed the "pro" meaning. Here is what I say. If you can beat two tables of 5/10 limit holdem for 1BB/100 which is not extraordinary you make 20$ per hour which is (I don't know where you live) an engineer wage in europe.

[ QUOTE ]
Yeah, I don't know for sure, but the source could very possibly be listing semi-pro athletes. [/ QUOTE ] if you don't know, then you shouldn't post the statistic. you lose credibility. |
