Re: So I saw the new poker room at the MGM today
Are they going to use actual cards, or are they going to use this technology to put a screen in front of you with your cards on it (like at the Hard Rock Casino in Hollywood, FL)?

Does such a thing actually exist? Who would want to play on that kind of table? People who hate internet poker love the live cards, so I'm not sure something like that would ever fly...

[/ QUOTE ] LOL, no.. and btw, any poker in a florida casino should be called Pingo for the obvious reasons....... snack bar nearby to the MGM ROOM........... can it get any better!! - how good are the waitresses to look at, at MGM? This may very well end up being a Borgata-AC type cardroom [img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img] |

Re: So I saw the new poker room at the MGM today
For the record, although I live in Florida, I've never played limit poker in one of our local "poker rooms." Hearing the description of the MGM room though made me worry that they'd be using the technology for evil instead of for good.

Re: So I saw the new poker room at the MGM today
Nope, based on believable info/source, I heard that Wynn's will likely suck, the management is not POKER friendly or savvy and very little $ being put into the room compared to other things, it's not meant to be a big draw. Location is sub par anyhow, good riddens.
I can just imagine a NO comp/NO frills poker room in the place. I'll give it 1 look, but in no hurry, with so many other easy access PR's around town in comparison. >TW< |

Allow me the educate 1) Danny N is the room's poker host. They don't invest that kind of money (he doesn't come cheep) unless they plan to cater to the top-tier crowd 2) Steve Wynn is a poker player. Many have said he could have been a great one if he wasn't so busy managing his empire. Remember, Bobby Baldwin got the job at Mirage in part due to his poker relationship with Wynn. 3) Bobby Baldwin cannot play poker in his own rooms (TI, Bellagio, Mirage, MGM), you can probably bank on it that he will be playing at the Wynn now. This is of course only an educated guess, but I like my odds. 4) The poker room is stocked with RFDI chips, which means they are investing heavily in the supporting technology to develop next-step chip tracking techniques. One of the options commonly discussed is providing comps based on betting patturns instead of time. That would of course be a huge advancement for poker players, we would no longer be the bottom of the comp barrel. I don't think we have much to worry about here, Wynn will be the #1 room in town by the begining of May, and there are few people who would despite that statement. Whether you're tight-passive or loose-aggressive doesn't really have much effect on the casino's bottom line. I wouldn't expect RFID to have any effect on poker comps. Wynn may choose to have better comps across the board for marketing reasons, but I don't see any reason for them to comp maniacs more than rocks (or vice versa). |

Maybe it's to keep track of the habitual smoke break people or distinguish between the 2-4 and the 80-160 players.
