I'm gonna add on to the people who reccomended the 17" WUXGA 9300. You can find lots of good coupons to bring them down to very affordable prices.

that's sort of what my opinion was. so i don't understand what was up with the hate from a couple of posters. they're fantastic machines, right? and you can get them with totally sick resolutions, right? and they cost a bit. oh well.

i'm trying to populate a list for research for laptops, starting with a couple of the thinkpads, and the dell 6000, maybe an asus, or an avertec.

'sick resolution' being 1600x1200, and you pay out the nose for it because you end up buying their cad-class systems. it takes 3k to get a good machine with that resolution. 1k less gets you a lot more in about every dept with dell, but it doesn't have the quality. i had a t42p, i have a 9200 now, and i'll have a 9300 in about a month. i definitely miss the thinkpad's keyboard.

If you just bought this laptop, I would consider upgrading your warranty. I would get the 3 year at home with the complete care package. I think they let you do this w/in a week or so of receiving the comp and you can definitely add before getting. It will cost you another 300 but worth it long term. I've had the hard drive die and a month ago i had to have basically everything on the comp replaced. I basically got a new comp for free after having it for 2 years. Dell makes solid laptops but they are rather volitile (like any laptop) and are prone to have [censored] blowing up. Just a thought. And laptops aren't as easy to fix yourself like a desktop.

get the 7200rpm 60g drive instead of upgrading 100mhz for $100. 2yr inhome warranty is worth considering as well.
