There are some underground clubs in Athens.

Lots in ATL. But you'd need a personal invitation, be pre-screened, have references, etc. if you want to go to one that has a minimal chance of getting busted or robbed.

If you'd care to chance it, join the yahoo group: holdeminatlanta. Plenty of games listed there.

The Silver Star Casino in Philadelphia Ms is the closest. I play over there once or twice a month and see a ton of Atlanta players. The staff is friendly and competent. The comps are okay ($10 every 6 hours) and the food is above average. The action is pretty soft on the weekends and they spread 3-6, 6-12 and 10-20 Hold'em.
Call ahead for a poker rated room. They don't have many.

Best of Luck

I would have thought Tunica, MS was closer by a good bit. I dunno, maybe I need a map.

If you're just looking for legit B&M poker, don't go to New Orleans, go to Tunica. They are both about the same distance and Tunica has a nicer cardrooms, more games, cheaper rooms, better food (in the actual casino, at least), and MUCH better comps. If you're looking to spend a significant amount of time outside of the casino, then New Orleans is a better deal.
