two aq hands.
hi fellow 2+2ers.
i played in a multi-table tournament at a brick and mortar casino in the bay area and have two hands that i'd like people to critique. it was a 100+25 tourney with 100 rebuy. there were 106 players and it paid the final ten. 1st paid 7300 and tenth paid 400. hand 1: 15 people remaining, 7-handed, blinds 600/1200 plus 200 ante utg+1, the second biggest stack about 16000 raises it to 5000. my read on the player is that he's reasonably tight but certainly not a rock. he will steal blinds but is not ultra-aggressive. in cutoff, i look down and find aq. i have about 27000 and am the chip leader at the table. i think for a while and move all in. thoughts? mostly i considered a push or fold, but would a call make sense here too? hand 2: final table, 10 people remaining, 2 short stacks at the table, 8th pays 800 or 1000. blinds are 1200/2400 plus 400 ante. the small blind is one of the short stacks and big blind has me covered. the small blind is a very tight player, the big blind is the same player as in the first hand. i am about medium stacked with 22,000. it's folded to me on the button. i move allin. would a raise to 7500-8000 make more sense here? if so, what would i do if reraised allin? all comments appreciated. i'll reserve justification of my until other people make their judgments. |

Re: two aq hands.
I fold hand one and push hand two.
Calling in hand one is a bad idea. I doubt he will be on a straight out steal from UTG+1, so I think he has AK-AJ 88+. You have a big stack right now and are capable of stealing a lot, if you push and lose, you will be down to 9k and in pretty bad shape. |

[ QUOTE ]
I fold hand one and push hand two. [/ QUOTE ] I tend to agree...I had a similar situation occur in a live tourney just over the weekend. Final table so we're all itm, and a player I know open pushes and it's folded to me with ATs. I have him covered but fold to a better spot. Very next hand, it's folded to me and I open-raise with the same hand as before, AT I've been burnt before by applying the Gap concept against all players, but I'll give the benefit till I can get the scoop either way on 'em. I now know against some players I play against regularly, they'll open raise with Ax and what I might normally fold to another player, I'll push in this case. You need a better hand to call with than to open with |
