Re: Open-limping on the button/cutoff
I don't think this is a bad play relatively early in tournaments. The thinking is probably something like this: The blinds are pretty small as compared to my stack, so I don't feel the need to steal them. I play better than the blinds post flop, so I will make better decisions than them. I will limp here in the hopes that I can take a bigger pot away from them later in the hand. I'll do it early on, my cut off is somewhere between 30-40x

Re: Open-limping on the button/cutoff
I'll open limp in that spot with the same range I'd open raise with, (well minus the top top hands I guess). It depends on the blinds. If they defend to much and then check-fold then yes open limping is wrong.

Re: Open-limping on the button/cutoff
It's a great mix it up play - but I think it only works when players know you, and know your style a bit.
There was a WSOP episode (not the main event), where the eventual winner open limped on the button. He has the BB so confused that the BB ended up throwing away the winner when bet into. I'm sorry I can't remember the episode, but it showed the power of the open limp. |
