Default Re: Legal way to pay for chips/cards?

haha,

I have played in Dallas for years and just recently moved to Cincy Ohio. When in Dallas there was a 5 buck sitting fee. No big deal, the Casinos take much more than that.

Now I run a large game in Cincy and I take 1 dollar from everyones buy in to pay for equipement. Yes it is illegal but is it worth worrying about? Well after 1 year I am still 300 in the whole, but not 900. N I C E. We have top quality holdem tables, chip racks, Computer software, Chips, cup holders, etc.

Basicaly I said screw it. PPl exspect to pay a little for a place to play, and nobody has showed one wince from taking a dollar from 10/20/or 30 buy in. I think the "feel" of the game more than makes up for it. And if it gets busted... again who cares? It is a slight offesne and you just simply stop charnging. But as it is now it is nice to not have to "stress" over how your equipment is being treated becuase you KNOW it will be paid for by the club as the club survives.

As for the donations, I find with as many ppl coming over that bring friends and friends of frineds we just get tired of exsplaining everthing. So now its a buck to sit... in a nice seat on a nice table and shuffle some nice chips while you play with nice KEM cards and etc.

I thought about a 'kitty' jar for chip cost, cards, etc. but w/the cheap bastards I play with, I just didn't want the agrivation. Instead, I invested in poker books and take their money every week. They are paying for my chips and tables much faster than if I was charging $1 or waiting for their tight asses to kick into a tip jar. Just last night I split the tourney and made $80 after skimming Sklansky's book on poker tourneys for advanced players. Found a hole in my strategey. I have had only 1 losing session in the last 6 months after getting the books. (drank too much on my birthday!).

Also, the chips are MINE. No borrowing, and they retaing their value like gold or art or something.

We take a few dollars every week from the players in our home game. Some of the money goes towards improving the game with supplies / etc. Some goes towards fun stuff we do, for example;

.50 per player goes into a "bad beat jackpot," which you can qualify for by losing with a full-house or better using both your hole cards. It's cumulative, so it carries over from week to week, and it's been hit for about $40 a couple of times.

.50 per player goes into a tournament pool that we save for the end of the year, and it's either a freeroll with uneven stacks (based on our player stats) or it's just added to the prize pool of a tournament.

Makes it easier to grab a few dollars from the players, because some of it can go back to them. It's all voluntary, but we've always taken it and no one ever complained.
