Default Positive EV?

A friend of mine wants to buy me into a $50+10 buy-in tournament with 15 players. He's asking for half if I cash. With $750 in the pot and pay-outs to the top three, would I be correct in saying that I have a 1/5 chance of winning $250?

I've figured it out to be +$375 for him when I cash (3/15), and -$720 for him when I don't. (12/15)

So -$23/tournament, correct?

My question is, how can I factor in skill? We'll assume that I'm one of the best players in the tournament. After factoring in skill, is this a +EV situation for my friend? If not, how can we adjust his cut to make it +EV?

Thanks.

Well, nobody who buys in probably, unless the players are really bad, but...

doesn't this mean that as long as he cashes more than 0% of the time that its +EV to get a freeroll?

You're probably right though that there's no way for it to be +EV for his friend who's paying the buyin.

hopefully you'd have an edge, meaning you should cash more than your fair share, and if you do the structure of the tourney will determine how much more than your share you should win. the longer the rounds, and bigger the stacks you start with, the bigger edge the better players will have.

If somebody offered to pay 10k to buy me into the WSOP main event, i'm pretty sure i'd agree to give them half my winnings.

There's more to EV than just cashing (unless it's a super-sat). There are players whose EV is definitely less than mine on a per tourney basis who cash 1.5x as often as I do.
