Re: The battle for the teaching of Evolution in schools heats up

...However, considering a great majority of Americans believe in Creationism... [/ QUOTE ] If this is so then our country is much worse off than I thought. |

So you prefer Religion over Science?
Why is that not at all surprising, considering the political views you have been expressing here?
Apart from some technicalities and a temporal difference in progress, your path does not differ from any other religious fundamentalist's. Chadors are relatively unimportant. |

Re: The battle for the teaching of Evolution in schools heats up
While I'm not particularly in favor of teaching Creationism, this quote struck me as interesting:
[ QUOTE ] It's not a matter of seperating people, its a matter of offering people choice. [/ QUOTE ] Doesn't excluding Creationism from being taught amount to limiting peoples' choices? Both Creationism and Evolution are theories. Do we believe that the theory of evolution is being taught in schools as though it is a theory or that it is a law? Perhaps as a compromise, we can put more emphasis on the fact that evolution is a theory and that there are other theories that exist as to how the universe was created. That way, if you're a Christian, you don't have to unteach your children. |

Why don't we also teach the theory that the earth is flat, which apparently some people still believe: link |

Re: The battle for the teaching of Evolution in schools heats up
More reading trouble. I didn't say we had to teach Creationism. I just offered the option of emphasizing that the theory of evolution is just that. A theory. It isn't a proven fact. It isn't a law. We don't have to teach every theory out there. Just make sure kids learning about evolution realize that this isn't necessarily the way the world works. Comprende?

Two relevant articles: Article One
Article Two This 'battle' is nothing new or surprising. It has been ongoing in various forms since the first Shaman danced about a smoky fire, shook his rattle, whooped out some mumbo-jumbo, and worked his 'magic' on the credulous crowd. -Zeno |

[/ QUOTE ] Fine, then, if you do this, then in the name of good science, one must point out that these other theories have no scientific relevance whatsoever. |
