Anybody been to this place? How is the poker? I've got a stopover flight there. 1-night.

if i had 1 night in amsterdam i wouldnt waste it in a casino.
that being said I have been in the casino but never played poker as it is too tough to concentrate in that town. there is a cover at the door to get in the casino of a few bucks and it is very quiet and what I would think of as very european (even though its the only one ive been in over there)

I've been to Amsterdam in my younger days and have done all the knucklehead stuff, red light district, etc. <groan><eyes rolling>.

Now I am more into the finer things of life, so Amsterdam to me means museums, nice dinners, fine women, and if I can find a decent game of poker, even better. If it's a quiet casino, even more so.

Thanks for the feedback.

OK. As mentioned by PoorLawyer, you will need to pay a nominal admission fee (a couple of euros) and they will want to see identification. Bring your passport with you.
You will get a small kickback for a free drink. No, drinks are not free. The Dutch don't mind your having a good time, but they want to make a profit off of it.

There are multiple "Holland Casino" locations in the Netherlands, but only the Amsterdam location (near the Leidseplein) offers poker. Link to their tourney page not in English, and does not work in Firefox.

In a nutshell, it says: Poker is dealt every day from 10PM until 3AM, and Sundays they start at 4:15 in the afternoon. Minimum buy in for limit is €200, and pot limit minimum buy-in is €500. On Tuesdays and Thursdays there are €60 entry fee tournaments with €50 rebuys for the first hour.

The page does not list tournament start times or payout structure. The page does not indicate blinds for pot limit. It suggests talking to the floor of the poker pit for more info.

I could not find an English version of this page.

When I was there, in September of last year, on a Friday night, there was only one table of €10/20 being dealt. They allow Dutch, German, and English to be spoken at the table.

Did not stay to play, opting for knucklehead stuff instead.

i've been to the casino of which you speak... make sure you bring your passport when you go or the hostess won't let you in... i didn't actually play any cards, i was trippin' balls on shrooms and ended up spending most of the time putting dutch guilders (this was prior to the euro) into a machine where i could bet on fake horse races (plastic horses running around a miniature track)

it was awesome

when I was there they had 10/10 PLO and 10/20 limit hold 'em, both with a ridiculous rake. in the game I played the players were all horrible.

HAHAHA I played this game too. I thought it was hillarious that it was made by Sega and had the actual plastic horses but then they filmed the race as it was happening and put the plastic horse race on a big screen so you didn't miss any of the action....I always wondered if any casino would ever install this thing in the US. It probably takes up too much room though.

I played that a bunch and then played blackjack and lost all my money....then i went to the ATM and got more and in my state of mind thought it was a good idea to bet it all on black on the way out the door....and then I had to go back to the ATM.

I was there a few months ago... The only game I saw spread was a Pot Limit Omaha High game. They do run tournaments (limit hold'em when I was there). I saw just as many people playing Sic Bo as poker...

That's funny! After your description and that of the others, I think I'll go back to the knuckclehead stuff too!

I also have an Air France option that gives free stopovers in Paris. Maybe I should do Aviation Club instead.
