i think people need to remember that bankrolls are relative as well. i've taken some lumps in 15/30 and then decided to go play and raise every single hand for awhile at 1/2, win or lose. people think i must be so angry because i managed to blow $150 in an hour...which is a lot at that table, but not really much at all to my overall bankroll. it's not that i wanted to give away that much money, but more i wanted to get my mind off the beats while playing a limit that couldn't hurt me too badly. i'm guessing it's possible the guy you saw is a high action player who busted through an amount that wasn't as important to him as others may think. just a possibility.
