I may have it!

I just found out in a help window that when I go to "Display" and "Settings", I'm supposed to RIGHT-CLICK the picture of the monitor that is not running, and click "enable".

If that's the case, I just need to get that "Settings" window onto the part of the desktop that I can see.

Any ideas?

2 years old, but after running "restore", it's like a new computer again!

If you can get to device manager and select the on board video, if you right click does it give you the option to disable? If so choose this it may not fix everything but it eliminates a possible conflict.

Nope.

Control panel opens on the good monitor.

I double-click "system", and the window opens god-knows-where. I can't get to it.

I want you to check in the BIOS setup page again. The HP website talks about a setting under the advanced tab to disable the on board video just take a look just in case its there. When you had the case open was there a diagram of the computer pasted inside?

I don't recall any diagram. But that doesn't mean it's not there.

I'm going to re-start now.

Thank you so much for your help.

You're not going to believe this:

But when I re-boot, the "opening Windows" page doesn't show up on the monitor that works.

Neither does the BIOS page.

Guess I'll hit "System Recovery" again. Damn, and I was so close.

Wait a minute--if I can't get to BIOS, will I get to recovery?
