Vegas to LA Commute on Sunday
I might need to drive from Vegas to LA this Sunday afternoon/evening/night. What times need to be avoided? Approximately what time in the evening/night does the traffic start to become reasonable?
Thanks. David |

Re: Vegas to LA Commute on Sunday
I've left around 8-9 pm on Sundays and made it to LA within 4 hours.
It can be hit or miss -- check the traffic reports online before you leave. |

Re: Vegas to LA Commute on Sunday
There are so many people coming back to LA from Vegas on Sunday that you'd have to leave either very early afternoon or late evening to avoid the traffic. Normal non-stop commute time should be 4.5 hours to Downtown Los Angeles.

I'd try to leave at the earliest 5 but probably 7 or 8 and you should get to LA in about 4 hours

Re: Vegas to LA Commute on Sunday
The later the better. I have made this trip MANY times, and I like to leave around 10 p.m. You can usually make the trip in 3.5 to 4 hours if you leave at this time.

Re: Vegas to LA Commute on Sunday
All I can tell you is, DO NOT LEAVE VEGAS AT 2:00 PM, or anywhere in that vicinity. I made that mistake once, and the trip took me 7 hours. There's nothing like stop and go traffic in the middle of the desert, 30 miles from the nearest town.
Like the other posters have said, wait until at least 8, and you'll be fine. |

Re: Vegas to LA Commute on Sunday
I did this trip New Years morning at 3am to go see the 2005 Rose Bowl. Probably the later at night you can leave the better. The bulk of drivers will probably be from 3-8pm.

Re: Vegas to LA Commute on Sunday
If you leave at any time from 10am to 8pm, it is gonna suck. That is all there is to it. 5.5 hours from Vegas to SF Valley using Pearblossom hwy. Normal time with no stops, middle of the day on a Tuesday-Thursday is 3.75 hours.
I swear people drive like crap. |
