Default All Day Hold Em Single Table Movin up Challenge....

Hey guys,
For some reason I'm sick as a dog today (strep throat or something) so I'm trying to convince myself to stay away from the St Patty's day parade. Normally I'd just put in a lot of hands at .5-1 but my money is stuck at Absolute Poker till tommorrow (48 hours) and I'm still waiting for support to respond to my e mail because for some reason I can't connect to their game servers. Anyway, I took a little shot last night by depositing 100 dollars at party and playing 2-4, then I moved up to 3-6 when I doubled it and moved up to 5-10 when I doubled that. One bad beat ( I'll save you the usual whining) and I was done with 5-10 for the day. So today, here's my plan. I cashed out my remaining winnings from last night and started at 2-4 with 100 again. I'm now up to 146 after 46 hands, nice upswing early. I'm going to play until I triple my cash then move up. I'm just trying to get a feel for the games at these levels at party and skins because I've beaten them all regularly in casinos but I know they're tougher online. Any insights, criticism etc more than welcome.
Good luck
--Matt

Your risk of ruin at 2-4 with 100 is incredibly high. Good luck, you'll need it.

So you have to win 50BB in a session of 2/4 before moving up to 3/6. Forgetting variance for a while - a good player would, on average, take about 20-30 table hours to win 50BB.

Allowing for variance, I'd say that most days you would never get to play 3/6 at all. You will lose your 25BB more often.

What's the point of this exercise? Why not play 2/4, see if you are good enough to beat it (over many sessions)and then try 3/6 with a bit of a BR behind you? Good players lose 25BB in a session frequently.

Hey i was playing 10/20 and 1/2 the players there bought in for around $200. It still mazes me why they would do it. One guy hit a monster of a hand and had no cash to bet river.

Hey guys,
I figured that would be the response, as it's the same response I would give. I'm really just treating this like a one table B+M session, where I usually buy in for 25 BB's. I know I can beat 2-4, however I also know that the ROR is definitely there. I'm basically just testing the waters at levels I hope to be playing in the future. Thanks for the input. Keep it coming.

Still stuck on up 40 after 100 hands, some A-hole sucked out and spiked a set to my two pair on a pot that would have put me up a little more than 25 BB's.

Good luck,
Matt

I'm so sick of hearing the term "risk of ruin." People are so caugth up with proffessing there knowledge of the 300 or 400 or 500 BB rule, that nobody bothers to realize that in almost all the cases we talk about on these forums, going bust really ain't all that big of a tradgedy.

If you lose a 100 bucks,no big deal, get a job, buy in again.

So I say if you think it would be fun to take a small amout of money and try to sprint up the limits with it, then do it. Enjoy yourself. And good luck.

Thanks Q,
I am a believer in the 300 BB rule but this isn't my bankroll I'm playing with. Maybe I should have explained better in my post but I am a properly rolled multi tabler at .5-1. I play to supplement my measly income and am pretty close to a 1-2 bankroll. As I said, this is just a test of the limits I hope to be moving up to online. It's also a way to keep myself from getting sicker by going to the St. Patrick's day festivities and getting hammered. I see 100 bucks as an easy to swallow amount to lose, especially because I'd be spending more in bars today if I wasn't sick.

Up 52 bucks in 130 hands.

Good luck all,
Matt
