Default How many rebuys for a home tourney?

I'm running a home tourney this weekend, and was planning on offering rebuys.
There will be anywhere from 10 to 18 players. Mostly bad, with a couple of competent players, and 2 good players.
$10 buyin.
I'll also offer an add-on at the end of the rebuy period.
I think for most players that would come, losing more than $20 or $30 could be 'a lot' to them.

I like rebuys in the begining, because you want two things to happen:

1) Someone who traveled far should not have to wait 3 hrs for another game to start.. or leave right away if they bust out early.

2) It does nice things to the pot

I don't care for add-ons because it is effectively forcing everyone to pay double the buyin even if they are doing well, just to keep up with the Jones's.

There comes a point where rebuying doesnt make sense anymore due to blinds and the size of some players stacks, so limiting it to the first hour is good.

I absolutely HATE rebuys. When people start to bust out of the tourney, we start side games.

I also hate rebuys. Under pressure I had rebuys in my first couple games...

Nine people at the table.... blinds 10/20... Raise to 100 and eight people call.

Last weekend I said NO REBUYS. Same situation nine people at the table... blinds 10/20.... Raise to 100 and it went to heads up.

Sometimes I cant believe the rebuys on pokerstars. 20+2 700 enter and 1500 rebuys.

One game I had I was feeling generous and started everyone out with 5000 in chips and started the blinds at 10/20 (they went up every 25 minutes). To my surprise one person Re-bought twice in the first hour. That was some bad poker playing.

I would rather have more people to push the pot up than offer rebuys.

From my observations, otherwise solid, successful poker players who dislike rebuy tournaments simply don't have enough experience with them. After all, I *want* people to call my 5x raises. I want them to play terribly and suck out on me a few times. The "rebuy madness" usually lasts after the rebuy period is over. I bust people all the time at this stage.

I love rebuys. Cut the buy-in amount in half and let people rebuy as much as they like until level 5 or so. Offer an addon that's larger than the original stack at the end. Always take the addon unless you're comfortably ahead

My regular home tourney we allow rebuys the first 90 minutes. The buy in is $25 and you can rebuy for $15. You can rebuy anytime you're lower than the starting stack, but you can only fill up to the same as the starting stack. At the end of the rebuy period, there's an add on for $10 for the same as the starting stack.

Rebuys are great because they beef up the payouts. Usually there's at least one person that has to rebuy 4+ times!

my personal reason is because say your 2 best players are at seperate tables. Table one has a total of 10 rebuys and table 2 has a total of 5. the player on table 2 will have through no fault of his/her own a huge chip disadvantage.
Just my 2 cents.
