Playing poker on an LCD projection HDTV
I'm hoping a videophile can help me with a few HDTV questions. I'm buying myself a 60" LCD projection TV (thank you, Party Poker) and naturally I want to play poker on it, although I don't think it's going to provide quite the mega-tabling experience I was hoping for. These things aren't specified with a resolution per se, the only thing I can find is that they support 1080i and 720p, which I believe translates to 1080 interlaced or 720 progressive scan horizontal lines. Since PCs use progressive scan (right?), does this mean that the max resolution of the TV in PC speak is 720 x something? If so, what is the something? Does Windows support such a ratio?
Many of them don't come with DVI inputs, only HDMI. How would I even connect my PC to the TV? Is there some kind of receiver that accepts DVI and converts it to HDMI? |

Re: Playing poker on an LCD projection HDTV
I highly suggest NOT using your TV to play poker.
a) the HDMI cable is going to run at least $150 b) logistics will be annoying c) your $300 bulb will burn out much quicker |

- if your willing to spend $$$$ on a 60" flat 150.00 should not disuade you. b) logistics will be annoying - small formfactor PC on the side - wireless key/mouse c) your $300 bulb will burn out much quicker - things im sure considered when spending around 2.4k only thing to add is ENJOY and try to get a DVI input also if possible. |

Re: Playing poker on an LCD projection HDTV
Just because you buy a 60" HDTV doesn't mean you're out to burn up whatever remaining money you have.
I bought a 50" HDTV very recently and am satisfied it with it, I will say that a lot people that buy these TV's felt that it was slightly more than they wanted to spend on a TV probably and not because they had $10k laying around. Why not use the $1,000 you'd spend for setting this up and replacing your bulbs and get some 2001FP's? |

Re: Playing poker on an LCD projection HDTV
Just wondering, did you find the TV a little beyond what you were looking for or is this what you went out to get?
For mine I just wanted to upgrade my Sony Trinitron 27" rock and found that $1,000 would only get me a non-HDTV 36" CRT. So im like what the hell, let's get a big screen TV =) BTW: condoms suck but astroglide make it so much better hehe |
