1st place only, Empire Tourney Masters

I qualified for the Empire Tourney Masters WSOP qualifier which only pays 1st place. I qualified by playing SNG's and really dont have much experience with MTT's, though I have read Harrington's book. I assume most of the people in this tourney (100) will be pretty solid.

How should I adjust my strategy with this in mind?

gambool and hope. You need to accumulate chips, and this means winning a bunch of 60/40 and probably some 45/55. If you make it to the final table your SNG experience should prove very helpful. Just readjust your thinking about the bubble - there's one that happens with 2 left, but a lot of the bubble concepts from SNGs will apply with more players still in. Some people will be playing very tight trying not to risk chips, and some will be trying to build a big stack. Find the former and steal their blinds, and hope the latter play back at you when you're holding AA.

(I realize this is simplistic advice, but it's intended as such. Basically, you need to build a big stack, so go out and do what's necessary for that.)

This was kind of what I was thinking. Not be afraid to push smaller edges and gamble a little. Should this include playing more hands than normal early?

Also wondering if anyone has played in these before and do almost all the 100 qualifiers show up?

You can loosen up a little, but be careful not to give away too many chips with loose preflop limping or chasing draws. You still want to keep your game pretty solid early.

You're heads-up with a 2:1 chiplead and you're giving him the chance at an even split? How little is the seat worth to you?
