Default I\'m embarrased

PP 3/6 UTG+1 is new to the table and UTG seems decent. Hero has black kings in CO

I've done this a couple of times in the last few days. Should I stop immediately?

UTG raises. UTG=1 3 bets. Hero calls.

That is the play in question, although the flop isn't standard either.

rest of the hand goes like this

sb calls. UTG calls.

A [img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img] K [img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img] 7 [img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img]

UTG bets. UTG+1 raises. Hero calls. SB calls. UTG folds

x [img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img]

UTG+1 checks. Hero bets. SB raises. UTG+1 folds. Hero calls

x

bet, call

You are going to win this hand well more than 33% of the time. By not raising you are saying 'no thank you' to your opponent's offer of money.

I recognized the possibility of being up against Aces, but was really just trying to be cute. I thought I could make up the lost bb and then some somewhere down the road if I just called.

On the flop, I thought to myself that no body will fold a gutshot if I raise, so I'll wait until the turn. And I'll get more money by flush callers on the turn too

That's the thing, though -- you'll make up the 2 lost SBs *if* UTG bets out on the flop and you raise it up. However, if you cap it, and UTG bets out, you can *still* raise it, getting more into the pot. Also, it's far more interesting if UTG bets into a hand you capped.

The best reason to cap, though, is that you very frequently have the best hand here.

-Brian

I'm going to war on the flop like 100% of the time here. Failing to do so is not a good thing.

I doubt very much that my move was the proper one, but I'm not digging these arguments.

I'll also make up the bb if someone calls preflop, and I should be able to make it up on the turn unless UTG+1 has AK and misses. But, on the other hand, such a player would call my turn bet, but wouldn't if I capped the flop.

What about the flop play?

Because you are going to have the best hand atleast 75% of the time here and your opponents are willing to put chips in the pot.

Because your hand has a great deal of equity. Not going to war here is leaving bets on the table. It's not really close.
