[ QUOTE ] I meant the casino's take. No disresepct intended to the low buy in. [/ QUOTE ] Yeah, I gasped at that as well...but sucked it up and paid it anyway. What are you gonna do, when they're the only game in town? Though I have once again heard from an "inside source" that Mohegan is re-opening their poker room... [/ QUOTE ] Competition would be great |

don't hold your breath on Mohegan [/ QUOTE ] Ok, this time I was talking to someone at Foxwoods who knew someone with a friend of a friend who read in Cardplayer that Mohegan's going to reopen their poker room sometime between now and the collapse of civilization. I s'pose holding one's breath would still be premature, but can we at least start the deep breathing exercises? |

[/ QUOTE ] I actually saw in the back of a Cardplayer issue mention of Mohegan possibly re-opening their poker room. Competition would be good. In addition, I placed 9th (final table, woo-hoo) last Thursday, but didn't get around to any Act tourneys. |

I would love to see mohegan reopen their poker room, but in the big picture how much money do poker rooms really generate for a casino. With the dealers and floor people neccesary I would not guess it is much. In fact it would not totally surprise me if the house just about broke even on poker and simply uses it to get people there. In that respect I doubt Mohegan is dying to reopen it, especially if they still do well in other games. Although I wouldn't know because I have never been since they don't have poker. ~Justin [/ QUOTE ] That's true, the Casino doesn't make as much money off poker as they do off slots, but they don't run the risk of having to pay off any jackpots either (but granted the money they make off their "rigged" games more than makes up for it. The current morning tourneys cost $60 with 25% ($15) going to the casino. Let's say they get 200 players, that's 20 tables and $3,000 take for the casino. Not a bad take, but nothing spectacular compared with what else they can make. Plus, tourney players are less likely to tip the dealers, so I'm sure the dealers prefer the ring games. The ring games have a rake, and I'm sure they make a decent amount for the casino. I think Binions poker room (I think that's who it was) went bankrupt at one point, because it was solely a poker room. |

Oh, no question that the machines have a higher profit margin.
On the other hand, opening a poker room means getting customers that you wouldn't get otherwise. I mean, I doubt that most poker players are dying to go to the casino to play the slots instead. And, looking at the spill-over traffic in the non-smoking table games at Foxwoods last weekend, it's pretty clear that once you got the poker guys in the house, you can expect them to play other games, too. I'm thinking that at this point, there isn't a shortage of slot machines and video poker machines in eastern CT. What they have now isn't a fight over excess slot business, so much as it's a fight over table games business. |

[/ QUOTE ] I won't play those suckers games, you can't bluff the house. I only play poker there, no other games. Of course, now I get a LOT less Wampum points, and the special deals for rooms are only for the Two Trees Inn, 1/4 a mile down the road, instead of the nicer Great Cedar and Grand Pequot. |
