Default Foxwoods 8am Morning Tourneys & Act I/Act II Poker Classic Events?

Hey everyone!

I played a few months back in the Thursday morning 10am $100 event and placed 30th out of 250, just barely making the money.

Anyway, I see that Foxwoods has changed their tourney formats to have 6am-8am signups for the morning events, and they now begin at 8am. Buy in I believe was $45+$15. I'm just wondering if anyones tried out this new format. Are they still filling up to 250 players easily, do they allow more than that?

How are the payouts and what time are these events filling up (i.e. is it worth my time to drive 1.5 hours very early in the morning, can I get there at 7:30 am and likely get in, etc?)

Also, a buddy of mine has a coupon for the main event of the Poker Classic, played in the Act tournaments and won his way in.

It looks simple enough to win your way into an Act III tourney. The Act I event is only 60 bucks and the top 3 out of 10 players move on to a $150 Act II event where again the top 3 out of 10 move on to Act III which is $450 and multi-tables (one out of every 11.55 players will win an entry into the main event worth $5,200)

Last year I won an Act I by finishing first, but the Act II you HAD to finish first to move on (I like that you can finish 1-3rd now). Anyone have ideas on how often these Act I and II events are held per day (how much interest is there?) and how the Act III events go down (typical # of players, play quality, etc.)?

Sorry to ask so many questions. I'm considering another trip to the "mecca" either Thursday or Friday morning. I also plan to play at least the $200 NL Hold 'Em multi-play event in the NE Poker Classic. And if my budget permits (or I win enough in the multi-play event) I'd really enjoy playing some of the more expensive Omaha hi/lo, 7-stud and stud hi/lo events.

I played in the 1st 8am yesterday. Same format as the 10am ones were, except you only start with T1500 instead of T2000. This wasn't an issue for me yesterday, as I doubled up within the 1st 2 hands (flopped a set then a flush). But then I made a bad move a little while later and lost my whole stack with top 2 pair to a big stack I thought was buying the pot, with what turned out to be a set. Anyway, the competition seemed basically the same (quite literally - I saw a lot of the same people) as the 10am ones, but we only started with about 150 players. Hard to say much more based on only 1 hour of play though, lol. Made up for it in $1/$2 though, so still a worthwhile trip all in all...

Thanks for the info Ray. Yeah, I was hoping that I could arrive before 8am and get in (without HAVING to arrive at 6am, god that'd be very early for me to start my drive down).

Now I can probably wake up at 5:20 am and out around 5:45 or 5:50 am and be alright to make it there. Plus I've got new wheels to replace my aging 95 Lumina (snagged a 2001 Buick Century Limited with only 27K miles on it!) so I should have a much more comfortable ride down.

You heading down Thursday or Friday? I'm considering it, although the future wife might be against it, I've got a home poker event on Saturday with a full house of 16 players.

You mean the fee that goes to the Casino? Or are you attempting to crack a joke about the low buy-in?

Thursday mornings used to be $80+$20 with about 5K for first place (250 players). It was setup this way so they wouldn't have to deal with tax issues for the winning players.

Why they've changed the buy-ins to such a lower amount I cannot say. The events used to start at 10am with line passes available at 8am and the line forming at 9am.

Now the registration is at 6am and the event begins at 8am. I played when it was 100 bucks and the majority of the players were terrible. They'd just bet and raise and call with nothing constantly. It was like playing at a table against Dennis Rodman, Chris Kattan, Collin Quin and that big doofey guy from Everybody Loves Raymond (yes, I unfortunately watch Celebrity Poker Showdown, as much as it gives me an ulcer to see them play)

First time poster...long time lurker.I played in that last Thursday tourney and was lucky enough to come in second. I asked a dealer and a couple of regulars and they all said the same thing....people and money. Why have 250 on one day when you can have between at least 100 and 150 a day, everyday of the week? Most of those people if they bust out early will go play cash games. Makes sense to them money wise and when you are the only legal live game in town....

Good point, I just wanted to make sure I'll be able to get a seat and not face a crowd of 350 people trying to get 250 seats. :P

Congrats on your 2nd place finish. Best I've done down there is 7th out of 200 in a Tuesday night rebuy tourney (scored $616 for my $55 investment, the Tuesday events were cheaper when I played then)

I have to drive about 100 miles one-way, so I just didn't want to get there early and miss out. Although I'm interested in playing an Act I tourney and expect to finish in the top 3 and play in an Act II as well. Hope not to see you there (I'd rather compete with the fish than players from 2+2)

Yeah, I gasped at that as well...but sucked it up and paid it anyway. What are you gonna do, when they're the only game in town? Though I have once again heard from an "inside source" that Mohegan is re-opening their poker room...
