Well, checking shows the most weakness.
The problem with a larger bet is that if he does have you beat, you'll be crippled. The only way you're going to win this hand is if he doesn't have the flush or the King. Any bet to someone who doesn't have either will worry them. Here's how I would break it down. If he has the flush or the King and you: -Bet strong, he will take most of your chips. -Bet 500 or so, he will take that, and you will survive. -Check, he will raise and you will fold If he doesn't have them and you: -Bet strong, he will fold -Bet 500 or so, he will fold -Bet 500 or so, he will make a bad call -Bet 500 or so, he will raise and you will fold, then that's just a good read and a good position move. -Check, he will raise and you'll fold So, basically my 500 bet is what I'm willing to lose on this hand. There's a chance that I'll win with it. Again, a larger bet preflop may keep this difficult decision from having to be made in the first place. |

Roman, can you point me to Woodguy's post on this? I'd like to read it.
Thanks. |

You made a play for the pot on the flop and he called. He is not going to call you with nothing unless he is a moron. After the turn the only concivable hand you could still be infront of is A9. You are more than likely behind with only 2 outs. I think its a good lay down.

I dont agree with a small bet here. I think it shows just as much weakness as a check, if not more. However, given your stack, you cant make a large bet either. Thats why I suggested an 1k bet in my post earlier.
I dont know about you, but whenever I see a small bet (about 10-30% of the pot) in a situation like this, I more or less know I can steal the pot with a big raise. A check on the other hand could be a slowplay, but a large enough bet to tell him you have something will be the best I think. Sure, you will be in a pretty bad shape if he does have the K or a set, but you cant give away a pot by betting to small. |
