Has anybody read this book? I'm strongly considering getting it just to have a better understand of sound play for draw poker even though I really only play it with friends(and b/c its pretty much dead everywhere else). I just think it would be a fun book to have.
any feedback on this book would be appreciated |

i have this book... it's good but i don't like the way it's organized, i would have prefered a section on draw and a section on lowball...

any feedback on this book would be appreciated [/ QUOTE ] The book has some excellent information, but it's a tough read. It's a very thorough source of information on the game, but those who only need to know the game at a more casual level probably don't need to go through this much effort, IMHO. |

I'm a draw enthusiast, so I have this book. As others have said, it's solid but pretty dry (think textbook). Mason's book and the draw/lowball chapters in Super/System by Mike Caro and Joey Hawthorne are probably the 2 "biggies" for how to play these games as they existed 20-30 years ago during the "Gardena" era (i.e. antes instead of blinds, single joker, jacks/better to open). I wasn't around for this era and this game barely exists anymore.
If you are planning to play draw online (the options are Paradise, Planet, or 24h), blinds are used rather than antes, you can open with anything, and the joker is not used (except at Planet). The best source I know of for this game are some columns by Mike Weisenberg of CardPlayer magazine; search the archive at www.cardplayer.com Once you've read this material, you should be able to crush your friends at home games and beat most online draw players. |

I'd recommend you also get Play Poker, Quit Work and Sleep Till Noon by John Fox. It's got all the moves and is very funny to read. I don't know if it's still in print, I managed to pick a second hand copy up.
