Default Simple PT datamining questions

I would like to start datamining. I just want to make sure I'm not going to screw anything up.

Will observed hands take up lots of room if I don't save the hand histories?

Is it possible to screw up my own database by downloading observed hands? Will it effect any of my current stats?

Anything else I should know before I start?

Thanks
